The English Program (2008 – present)
The English program was started by one of our dedicated volunteers, Madeleine Anderson. As a solid grasp of the English language is becoming increasingly important for success in the Guatemalan education system and beyond, a solid early exposure to it is imperative. English is becoming a requirement in 7th grade for children. The program gives them the head start they need to excel for when they move on to junior high. It is part of our alternative school curriculum and there is no charge. A native English speaker is always hired to teach this and is a paid employee of UPAVIM.
