The Annex Development
During its first eight years, UPAVIM had a large three story building. As programs expanded and we started new projects we needed more space. We managed to purchase the adjacent property which had a building already on it but not suited to our needs. We tore down the building in 2000 to begin construction of our ” Annex,” to stand next to our main building. We have had to build floor by floor as we raise money. The Global Fund for Women supported the first phase of construction and the Palmer Foundation supported Phase 2, which was completed in February 2004. Phase 3 was completed in 2008. Only the 4th floor left to go!

The first floor houses our bakery and store, as well as the soy milk production factory, library, two classrooms and tutoring program. Now that Phase 2 and 3 are completed, the Alternative Learning Center has moved all other classes to the second floor. The third floor is connected to the third floor of building one and is an extension of the crafts program which has expanded through the years. In the future when the 4th floor is constructed we hope to extend the library which has proved to be much needed in the community and have more computers. We also want to start a senior program where seniors could come a few mornings each week for a program and noon meal.
