UPAVIM Bakery

During its first eight years, UPAVIM had a large three-story building. However, as our programs and projects grew, we began to need more space. We managed to purchase the adjacent property, which had a building already on it but not suited to our needs. We tore down the building in 2000 to begin construction of our “Annex,” to connect with our main building. 

 

We had to build floor by floor as we raised money. The Global Fund for Women and Palmer Foundation supported Phases 1 and 2, which were completed in February 2004. Phase 3 was completed in 2008, Phase 4 in 2016, and finally the roof-top playground was built in 2019. We now have only the solar panels left to go!

• First Floor: Bakery, store and soy milk production factory, and library​

• Second Floor: Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade classrooms

• Third Floor: Crafts extension

• Fourth Floor: 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade.

• Fifth Floor: Rooftop playground (a safe place for kids to play away from dangerous streets)
