What We Do
At UPAVIM we believe that when women are economically empowered, families thrive and communities are safer. Through our income generating projects, the women of UPAVIM are able to support themselves, their families, and their community.
Located in a “Red Zone” of Guatemala City, La Esperanza is a community plagued by gangs and violence. For the women of this community, UPAVIM offers a place of sanctuary through camaraderie, employment, and security.
La Esperanza suffers from gang and domestic violence, illiteracy, unemployment, alcoholism, and malnutrition. In English, La Esperanza translates to "hope", and our goal is to turn that sentiment into a reality by creating employment, health, and educational opportunities.
